Securing Your Home - Home Security

Tips For Securing Your Home

The world of securing your home is a huge market with many vendors. Burglaries are commonplace in neighborhoods across the globe. Insecure homes are a big target. Use the information below to make sure that you are keeping your family, as well as your possessions, safe and sound.

Does your dog remain outside while you"re gone? This is where you can put your spare key. Conceal it in the dog"s collar. If your dog doesn"t like strangers, it"s even better.

See if your area police department has any home security programs. They often offer home inspections, seminars and even the ability to purchase items. Contact your local police department to find out if they offer this type of program.

Don"t be shy. Talk to your neighbors. Agree to watch each other"s homes while you are away. Do not ignore gossip either. You might actually learn a thing or two concerning people that have been hanging around.

Any program to help improve the securing your home should begin with complete replacement of your door locks. Maybe you had a roommate move out or have a disgruntled ex-lover, changing the locks is the best way to keep yourself safe. It is not expensive and you can do it in less than a day.

Keep valuables hidden within the walls. This doesn"t necessarily involve chopping up your walls, either. Many spots are already cut that can be used for this purpose. Remove the wires from an electric socket you do not use so you can hide your valuable jewelry.

Don"t put your spare keys under floor mats or plants. You are allowing people to invade your home when you make it easy for them. Thieves know about all these hiding spots. If you have a neighbor you can trust, have them hold your extra key.

Ensure that valuables are stored in a hidden area that isn"t visible from outside your home. Although large windows in your home can provide your home with a lot of light, they can also provide burglars with an excellent view of the inside of your home. By reducing visibility into your home, you protect your belongings, safety, and you improve the interior beauty of your home.

Don"t just consider alarming your doors when you"re considering an alarm system. Windows need to be monitored too. Make sure the alarm is attached to all of them, and that monitoring is offered for all possible entry points. The safety of your family will be ensured.

Before letting a home security representative inside, ask for identification. You would be surprised how many thieves will impersonate security representatives to get into your house. Intruders could disguise themselves as home security representatives to inspect your current security system. Be careful to avoid any potential dangers.

You want to know what is included in a contract if you"re signing up with a security company. You may find fees appear unexpectedly, including excessive costs for ending your contract early. It"s best to know about these fees in advance so that you can avoid them when possible.

Use the Internet to find a reliable home security company. Look at various sites and read customer testimonials, along with details on various packages. Once you do this, make appointments with the three best companies you find so that you can compare pricing and other important details.

Don"t limit security to the inside of your home; the outside needs attention too. Your doors and windows should not be obstructed by shrubs or fences. No one can easily break into a window which everyone can see. Utilize shrubs and trees farther away in order to add beauty to your home while keeping it safe.

Determine how much experience a home security company has before you decide to do business with them. Many years of service bode well for the company"s performance. Realizing you at involved with a stable firm will give you a sense of calm that is important.

Invite a security company to come to your house and figure out a system that will work for you. Every house and every family will produce a unique set of security concerns that are best addressed with tailor-made security arrangements. If you find a company that will tailor the plan you choose to your needs, you can get the highest level of security that makes you feel comfortable.

Consider your security risk and safety needs before purchasing home security systems. They can really protect your family, but they"re not something that everybody needs. In some areas, a class on self defense or a guard dog might be more suitable, yet in others, an advanced home security system will fit the bill. Understand completely the risks and rewards in order to make an informed purchase decision.

Your family and your home will be safer with good home security in place. You never know when a criminal might strike. Keep these tips in mind and feel good about the safety of your home. This should be done as soon as possible. Do what you can as soon as you can.

Entry Way Alert Set. For outdoor or driveway applications, Rodann, RX/TX-2000A

Both transmitter and receiver have antennas that allow 360 degree rotation and pull away from sides of boxes. For best results in communication between transmitter and receiver it is ideal for the antennas to be on the same plane. Example: (If one antenna is pointing up in the vertical position, then the other antenna should be pointing up also. If one antenna is in the horizontal position, then the other antenna needs to be horizontal and pointing at each other for optimum reception). When it comes to distance in communication between transmitter and receiver environmental condition need to be considered. Line of sight without obstacles is ideal. Every tree, bush, fence, car, building in direct line of sight will reduce communication between units. These units should give you approximately 1000’. You may also add additional transmitters to one receiver or additional receivers to one transmitter.

TRANSMITTER
The outdoor weatherproof transmitter unit that can be either side or overhead mounted. A 9V replaceable battery is included and is already installed for your convenience. In the back of the unit there are six dip-switches. Numbers 1-4 control the communication security codes that must match the receiver. Numbers 5 & 6 on the transmitter identifies which of up to 4 transmitters (zones) is sending a driveway motion alert. There is an antenna that can rotate for optimal transmission to the receiver up to a realistic 1000 feet away. The driveway beam projection at 25 feet is 1 foot square and at 50 feet it is 2 feet square.

Additional wireless Sensor /Transmitters may be added (item 25-404).

RECEIVER
The indoor receiver has a plug-in 12VDC power supply with a 6 foot cord. The receiver may be placed on a counter top, table or hung on the wall. The electronic LED counter feature allows you to either count customers or count unexpected visitors / vehicles moving in your driveway. There is a reset button next to the counter, when pressed it will zero out the counter. This unit also has six dipswitches on the back of this unit. Numbers 1-4 must match transmitter. Number 5 controls the output of the 12VDC terminals on the back of the receiver with a one second or five second 12VDC output, Number 6 is not used. The terminal screws on the receiver back give you the option of adding a bell, buzzer, horn, siren, strobe or anything that is 12VDC operated. The other speaker terminal (SPKR) screws allow you to add an auxiliary speaker via a wire connection to get the same “Ding Dong” sound as the receiver. A volume control knob adjusts volume on receiver and auxiliary speaker and a different tone is generated depending on which transmitter (zone) is activated. For optimal reception the antenna will swivel 360°.

Additional Receivers: wireless (item 25-403) or wired (item 25-405) may be added.

Optional Extra Loud indoor Siren or Steady Tone Electronic sounder available for high noise areas, see item 60-206.

Voice Alert Wireless Door Entry Announcer, VA6DEA

Voice Alert System-6 allows voice-recorded messages to identify activity for up to six monitored zones. The Voice Alert System-6 uses wireless sensors (contact closure / motion / etc.) that send a wireless signal up to 1000" line of sight (or up to 300" inside) to an indoor receiver/speaker (Base Unit).

When a wireless sensor is activated a radio signal is sent from the wireless transmitter to the remote Base Unit. A custom message, which you"ve recorded in your own voice for that specific zone, is played on the Base Unit. One of four form "C" relays (NO/NC dry on/off switches) attached to the Base Unit can optionally be triggered (see example below). Voice Alert System-6 sets up in minutes and can be completely customized to handle tough wiring situations. Multiple base units may also be used to trigger alerts in two or more areas simultaneously.

The TXPCBB transmitter sends a radio signal by input from either Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) devices. An included magnetic door contact sensor with 2" of wire is included. The small magnet mounts on the door and the small wired sensor mounts opposite the magnet on the door frame and it connects (via the included 2" of wire) to the NC (normally closed) terminals on the transmitter.

Home Security Keep - Your Home Safe

What You Need To Know About Home Security

Do you want to make your home safer? That is wise, because you can never be cautious enough about your house. To make sure your home is always safe, you need to do your part. Look at this article to become more knowledgeable about home security.

Is your dog kept outside when you are away? This is a good spot for keeping your spare key. You can attach your key to your dog"s collar in order to keep the key hidden. If your pet does not get along with strangers, this will ensure your spare key stays safe.

Before selecting a security firm, ask for recommendations. They have likely had interactions with home security providers that they can tell you about, saving you time and stress. Taking a little time to listen can make you a much better decision maker when it comes to home security.

Never open up your door to a stranger. Many people are devising many different schemes to get into homes and burglarize them. Make it a rule in your home that you only open your door to people who you were expecting.

See what your local police department offers in terms of home protection programs. There are plenty of things that can be done, from a safety walk to cataloging expensive items to help protect your investment and your family. Contact your local police department to find out if they offer this type of program.

Be sure your expensive belongings are not visible from the home"s exterior. If you have big windows near your big entertainment system, it can seem like an invitation to thieves. Make sure you keep your blinds closed or arrange your possessions in such a way that they can"t be seen from outside.

If someone from the security company comes to your home, ask to see their ID before allowing them in. Criminals can easily pretend to be from a security firm as a means to gain entry to the house. This situation presents danger to your home, family and belongings. Be cautious to stay safe.

You can add a great deal of security to your home by installing a system of motion activated exterior lighting. These lights provide extra light for your home and are very cost efficient. They also help to keep intruders away, because an intruder does not want to come close to your property if they know they might be spotted.

Invite a security company to come to your house and figure out a system that will work for you. There are always going to be unique things about your home as well as your specific needs, so make sure you think about these things. If you"ve found a company that can tailor a system to you, you can receive the greatest amount of security to make you feel much more comfortable.

Your home"s exterior needs to be well lit. Burglars like committing crimes in the darkness. You should put a light on any area where a person could break in. This will include doorways, porches, your garage, and ground floor windows that criminals can use.

Think about having a wireless security system for the home installed. While wired systems may seem cheaper, they need your home to be rewired and they can fail due to a power outage. Also, you will have a very easy time installing them.

A dog is an excellent burglary deterrent system. Man"s best friend is very territorial and makes a lot of noise during anything happening out of the ordinary. It doesn"t even have to be a big tough dog. Small dogs also help, because intruders don"t want people to notice the barking.

Don"t get spring latch locks. These are the easiest for criminals to open with a credit card. Intruders can pick these locks by wedging a credit card in between the latch and the door. A deadbolt can be retrofitted to a door with a spring latch lock if you want to make it more secure.

Do not keep the registration papers for your car inside the car"s glove compartment. The reason is that anyone who sees them will immediately have your home address. You should make sure to keep them on you, or store them somewhere safe in your car. However, make sure you have them in case you were to get pulled over by the cops.

Consider a hard-wired security system if you are concerned about ongoing maintenance costs. Systems that are wireless are convenient, but the batteries required can be cumbersome. Not replacing the batteries keeps your system from working properly. Replacing batteries can get costly.

No home is safe from thieves. You can decrease the possibility of an invasion with certain steps though. The above article has provided you with great home security advice. Use them to ensure your home is protected.

Home Security Systems Products

Home Security Systems, This Article Will Help

If home security systems is a topic of curiosity, you have come to the right place. Never settle! You should take control of the choice and have the best information handy. This article will help you learn more.

Your faithful dog makes a great hiding spot for a spare key. In order to make this work, your dog either needs to stay outside or have access to a pet door. Place a spare key on the collar, and when you really need a spare, you know where to go!

Always change the locks after moving into a new home. You will want to have a unique combination to stay secure. To make sure no one else can get into your home, call a locksmith. If you lose keys, make sure to do this, too.

Fire-resistant building materials are the way to go, both inside and outside the home. This adds an extra layer of protection to your home, especially if you live in a very dry area with power lines. It"s best to prevent a fire before it starts.

When you"re picking out home security equipment and services, don"t forget to ask your friends and family for help. Your loved ones likely have dealt with this situation before. Taking a little time to listen can make you a much better decision maker when it comes to home security systems.

Turn the ringer off on your telephone if you are going to be away. A ringing phone that goes unanswered may signal to a burglar that nobody is home.

Check with the police department in your town for home security tips and advice. There are lots of different programs, like home inspections, that will help you take the proper steps to make sure your home adequately protected. Speak with the police in your area to see if they have these things.

Be outgoing. Be friendly with people that live in the neighborhood. Watch their houses, and ask if they"d do the same. Don"t ignore the gossip. You might actually learn a thing or two concerning people that have been hanging around.

The first thing to do is get your locks changed out. Whether an old roommate left or a relationship ended, changing your locks is a good idea. This is something that you can do yourself and does not cost much money at all.

You need to go with your gut instinct when it comes to negotiating and dealing with a home security installation company. If the men who come to your home to do the installation seem untrustworthy, you can change your mind. You should not hesitate to ask if you can work with a different representative or find a different company if you are not comfortable. You want the system to make you feel like you"re more comfortable.

The walls are a perfect hiding place. If you have small valuables you want to protect, consider hiding them inside your walls. All you need is a wall opening you"re not using (something like a phone jack, electrical box, or switch plate). You can also just put in a false plate to cover a hiding place.

It is important that you do not put expensive valuables in plain sight. Large front windows are great, but they also allow others to peer into your home. Windows facing the street need to be covered to keep inside possessions safe.

If your home isn"t new, replace the locks. Even if you"ve gotten a key from the previous owner or tenant, there could still be a lot of people out there who have keys to your home. You can purchase the locks and install them yourself to ensure you"re the only person that has a key.

If you want to make your house even more secure, a cheap way to do that is to buy outside lights with motion detectors. These lights provide extra light for your home and are very cost efficient. Properly-situated motion detectors will give your home a complete field of protection and make it impossible for a miscreant to approach undetected.

Inquire with your home security service as to how long they"ve been in business. Long Range Wireless Door Entry Alert, UTDCDCR-2500

The Door sensor/transmitter has a magnetic door contact, so that when the door is opened by a visitor / customer, it sends a wireless entry alert chime to the DCR-2500 receiver (which is power by an AC adapter and can be plugged in up to 2500 feet away (depending on walls, building materials, etc.). The wireless sensor/transmitter also has a push button that can be used as a panic button, pager signal or a wireless doorbell. It also offers a 5 minute exit delay so you can leave the house without disturbing any occupants as well as a reminder beep and counter function.

System includes quantity 1 (NC) normally magnetic door contact for more difficult installations and/or where the UT-2500 transmitter cannot be mounted on door frame (this 12" wired contact would optionally replace the contact included with transmitter). When You Need To Understand Home Security

To make the best choice in terms of securing your home, it is important to familiarize yourself with the range of options that are available. This isn"t something to be taken lightly. It is better to concentrate on providing the best level of home security possible for your family and home.

Your dog can safeguard an extra key. If your dog lives outside or is able to come and go through a dog door, this is a viable idea. Just place your key on your dog"s collar.

Be very cautious about entrusting a maid service with a key to your home. If they need the keys and plan on being in there for more than an hour, try to ensure that they are honest, hardworking, and reputable. It is best to do a reference check on them. If the cleaner is from a firm, try calling the local BBB to find out about the firm"s reputation.

Does your canine stay in the yard while you go out? If so, the dog can be a terrific spot to keep a spare key. Conceal it in the dog"s collar. Especially if your dog is not very friendly, this will help keep your key safe.

Make sure that you hide your spare key in a good spot. Intruders will think to look on the top if a door frame and under a doormat. An example would be to attach a key to your dog"s collar, if he stays outdoors.

Get roofing, flooring and ceilings that are fire resistant. This can provide additional safety to the home, particularly in dry regions. Preventing fires is the best way to deal with them.

Be sure to keep your car in your garage rather than filling your garage with stored belongings. In this way, your car will be safer. If your car is locked up inside, it cannot be stolen or vandalized. Additionally, if your car is put away, burglars will not be able to tell whether or not you are home.

Make sure to have your home inspection system maintained on at least an annual basis. Have a worker from the security company take a look at it. Wild animals or plain old nature can wreak havoc on your home security system. If you aren"t paying attention, you may not be aware of these problems.

Always lock your home, even if you plan on coming back within a few minutes. This is often a surprise, but the majority of burglaries are due to someone just waltzing right into an unlocked home. A thief can steal lots of stuff in a little amount of time.

When you pick an alarm system, it"s a good idea to get one that provides protection for both doors and windows. The best systems are those that cover windows as well. Therefore, ensure the windows have an attached alarm. All potential entry points should have an alarm. This is a way to make sure your family will be safe.

You should change all the locks if you just bought or rented a new home. You really don"t know much about the people who sold you the home, regardless of how competent they may seem. There are other people who have lived in the home as well.

Before you let anyone into your house, thoroughly check their references. For a relatively small fee, you can also run a background check for their criminal history. You never really know if you can trust a service person, and giving access to the wrong one can prove disastrous.

If you have your home brightly lit, burglars are likely to avoid it. They don"t want anyone to see them. Thieves have a hard time stealing things when there are lots of lights around. Keep those lights shining brightly at night.

Consider your personal needs for safety and your security risks prior to looking for security systems. While these systems could be good for protecting your family, they aren"t for everyone. In some cases the security system is your best investment, in others you well-served with an alert dog or reinforced locking systems. Think about your risk factor when making a decision.

A wireless security system could be a good option. Systems that are wired can be a little cheaper, but may need significant reworking of your home"s electrical wiring and can fail in a power outage. Wireless systems tend to be easier for installation and maintenance, and they will not go out if your power does.

Now that you"ve come to the end of this article, you know a lot more about home security. You should no longer make blind decisions in keeping your home safe. You need to be comfortable that you have taken your family"s security seriously. You should use the tips from this article to protect your home.
